Cost

Each two-hour session is $60, paid by credit/debit card, cash, check, or PayPal at the time of the session. You can also prepay for 12 classes, at a total cost of $675 (value: $720).

What’s included, and what are classes like?

All group classes are led by Mel. With a maximum of 5 students, your learner absolutely gets individualized attention in every class. All course materials are included – there’s no need to purchase additional supplies or books.

We use only official, previously released exams in our prep. In each class, we work through chunks of material in the SAT and the ACT, across all sections of the test – Reading, Writing and Language (English), Math, and Science – that have been carefully selected for each group’s score level. For example, in a recent Intermediate class we covered medium-difficulty ACT Math, a fiction passage in the ACT Reading, grid-in questions in the SAT Math with Calculator section, and an SAT Writing passage. Students work through practice problems at their own pace while Mel helps every student in turn. For questions that stump everybody, we come together for mini-lessons. Students enjoy the active learning, which is one of the best ways to learn (and retain) new material.

When can I start, and how long should I prep?

We’ve designed the group classes to be self-contained units so that no student will come in feeling “behind” the other students, so you can start anytime.

Score improvement happens over time. Think of your starting and target scores. Students with higher starting scores (SAT 1100+ / ACT 22+) tend to improve at a faster pace than do students with lower starting scores. Preparing once per week in a group class, 50 points SAT / 1-2 points ACT takes 6-8 weeks, while 200 points SAT / 6 points ACT can take 3-6 months.
